Upgrading iPad to 4.3 when you can't delete your backup

I was having issues upgrading my iPad because it said I had a corrupt backup. The specific message was "iTunes could not back up the iPad (name) because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPad".

The resolution, found in the comments on this page, is to manually delete the folders located inside c:\users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\backup.
